Philadelphia police continue to search for the suspects in a caught-on-cam armed robbery that occurred in Center City over the weekend. On Sunday, Aug. 23, around 3 a.m., three masked men exited a gray Honda Accord and approached three people along the 1500 block of Locust Street. Two of the suspects were armed with handguns while a third was carrying what appeared to be an AR-15-style rifle. Police said the suspects ordered the three victims to the ground and demanded their belongings. Two of the victims complied while at least one of the suspects pistol-whipped a third victim in the face, according to investigators. The armed suspects stole cellphones, watches, car keys, wallets, driver’s licenses and an undisclosed amount of money from the victims before fleeing eastbound on Locust Street in the gray Honda Accord, investigators said. Police also said a fourth suspect — the driver — was inside the vehicle during the robbery. Part of the robbery was recorded by a witness who posted the video on social media. During a press conference Monday afternoon, police revealed that the Honda Accord — which had been stolen in Cheltenham Township back on Aug. 19 — was later recovered in Philadelphia Monday morning. Police also said they haven’t seen reports of similar robberies possibly linked to Sunday’s incident. At this time, they’re unsure if the victims were targeted though they did confirm that the Honda Accord was spotted in the Center City area for about three hours before the robbery occurred.
