Lacole Diane Dotson, 27, of Freemansburg, Pennsylvania, was arrested and charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person. On Saturday, Aug. 22, shortly after 6 a.m., police responded to a home on Market Street in Freemansburg for a 911 call. When they arrived, they found Atirah Steed, 27, of Freemansburg, suffering from gunshot wounds inside the living room of the home. They also found Steed’s 45-year-old father suffering from gunshot wounds on the porch of the home as well as a 9mm handgun. The wounded daughter and father were both taken to the hospital. Steed was pronounced dead about an hour later at 7:16 a.m. while her father remains in critical but stable condition. One of the responding officers spotted Lacole Dotson at the home, according to the criminal complaint. Investigators said Dotson was dating the 45-year-old man and the two have a 1-year-old child together. After interviewing both Dotson and a witness, police determined Dotson was with her boyfriend and Steed on the porch of the home around 2 a.m. on Saturday. The witness told investigators Dotson said something that upset Steed who then went upstairs to go to bed. Later that morning while her boyfriend was away at work, Dotson came back downstairs and said she didn’t like what occurred the “prior night,” according to the witness. The witness told police Dotson then went back upstairs before returning with a gun in her pocket. When Steed asked Dotson why she had the gun, Dotson replied that it wasn’t for her but instead for her father, according to the criminal complaint. Dotson then pulled the side of the handgun and ejected a cartridge before saying, “I’m not playing with ya’ll,” as well as “Leave me the f— alone,” investigators said. Steed then told Dotson that if she was going to “pull it out, she might as well use it,” according to the witness. The witness told police he then heard a “pop, pop, pop” sound as Dotson began shooting at both him and Steed. The witness dove behind a couch for cover and spotted blood on the back of Steed who was “gasping for air,” according to the criminal complaint. The witness told police he then saw Steed’s father at the front door and heard him tell Dotson to stop. Dotson then shot Steed’s father as the witness fled from the home, according to the criminal complaint. The witness said he heard Dotson saying that she would call the police on herself. While being interviewed by police, Dotson said she felt threatened by Steed though the two women weren’t involved in any physical altercation in the hours before the shooting, investigators said. Investigators also said there was an incident between Dotson and Steed that involved a pair of scissors in 2025, though no charges were filed back then. Dotson is currently in custody at Northampton County Prison after her bail was denied. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 1, 2026.
