Betsy Ross was scared, injured and abandoned on the Fourth of July.But this sweet, gentle hound dog found luck and love on July 5, when Kim Kryza, who runs the nonprofit Kim's Cat Crusade, was feeding stray cats in a St. Peters burg alley."As I turned into the alley, on the right-hand side there was this medium-sized dog crate with a dog in it," says Kim. "She had no food, no water."The dog's paws were bloodied.The cage bars were twisted from the dog trying to escape.Kim named the pup Betsy Ross on account of the patriotic holiday.Kim thinks whoever left her there knew about Kim's Cat Crusade coming to that alley."She's had a tough life," she says.Since that time, however, Kim and a loving network of dog lovers, cat lovers and animal-care nonprofits like Compassion Kind have rallied around Betsy Ross, nursing her back to health and fostering her in various houses.Now they want to find her a permanent home where she can live a happy life.Current foster dad Alex Baeten of Holiday says Betsy Ross is playful and loving, and would thrive in a family with children and lots of outdoor time."But she loves to hang out on the couch and hang out with you too," says Alex.The nonprofit Compassion Kind, which specializes in abandoned and mistreated animals, is handling Betsy's adoption.If you're interested in adopting Betsy Ross, or any of their adorable animals, you can contact Compassion Kind on their website here or by emailing them at [email protected] more Sean Daly stories, follow Sean on Instagram at @seandalytv. ...read more read less
