How about starting off your week with a feel good post, regarding Charles Barkley no less.
The NBA legend and Inside the NBA host has refused to give up his likeness rights to NBA2K unless they ante up a yearly $1M donation to the NBA Retired Players Association.
Nearly impossible not to respect Charles Barkley after hearing this. Your move, @NBA2K. https://t.co/fj9O8GygMd— SpursRΞPORTΞR (@SpursReporter) August 20, 2026
The The National Basketball Retired Players Association (NBRPA), founded in 1992 by Dave DeBusschere, Dave Bing, Dave Cowens, Oscar Robertson and Archie Clark, is a non-profit association composed of former professional basketball players of the NBA, ABA, Harlem Globetrotters, and WNBA. There are over a thousand members including Hall of Famers.
The mission of the NBRPA is to support players as they transition out of professional basketball. They offer assistance with health, financial aid, advocacy, as well as hosting youth and community outreach.
Barkley’s stand on use of his likeness does not benefit him financially, but helps to bring awareness to the men and women who sometimes struggle in their post professional life.
NBA2K has continually refused to meet Barkley’s demand as they stated they pay all retired players under a standard uniform structure. Barkley has not permitted his likeness with the exception of The Dream Team on 2K13 which he allowed as a favor to Jay-Z, who served as the executive producer on the project.
Barkley, known for his causes as well as his ability to ruffle feathers, is being given accolades on social media for his continued efforts.
