Architects and designers share plans to adapt infrastructure to combat flooding, sea level rise across South Florida

As major floods and rising temperatures continue to impact areas across South Florida, local architects and designers are sharing plans on how they will combat the issue.
These designers shared plans to merge infrastructure with urban design to help residential buildings, parks, and other areas.
This comes as the state is dealing with rising waters, worsening storms, and other climate impacts.
Jeffery Huber, a landscape architect, said that parks are starting to build their infrastructure with storm water problems in mind.
“We’ve already bought into a certain amount of extreme flooding and extreme heat, and how we adapt is going to be an interesting question, but also an interesting transition. And I think that’s the one thing we’re probably weakest on right now in South Florida, is how do we transition in this future sea level rise, when we have three feet, six feet of sea level rise?” he said.
Part of the redesign of Florida’s coastal infrastructure includes using nature-based green solutions like sponge parks.
Other solutions including upgrading flood control and transit systems to withstands rising seas and increased storms.
