LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will shift Interstate 75 southbound traffic into a new configuration beginning Aug. 18 as work continues on a bridge deck restoration project over David Fork of Elkhorn Creek. Crews will reconfigure traffic between mile points 109.5 and 111 fro m 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., weather permitting. Once the switch is complete, I-75 southbound will reopen to up to three lanes through the project area, up from the two lanes currently available. Traffic merging onto I-75 southbound from I-64 will shift to the left side before the bridge, while the right lane across the structure will remain closed for continued bridge and barrier work. Exit 110 at Winchester Road is expected to reopen to all southbound traffic following the traffic switch. The new configuration is projected to remain in place through the first week of September. The $1.4 million bridge deck restoration and waterproofing project began in June and is designed to preserve the bridge deck and extend the service life of the structure. The project is expected to be completed by Sept. 1, 2026. The KYTC advises motorists to use extra caution when traveling through the work zone and to watch for signage and crews. All work is scheduled tentatively and subject to change based on weather, emergencies and other unforeseen circumstances. For live traffic updates, visit GoKY.ky.gov.
