Muskego High School football is using one of its biggest nights of the year to give back to the community, turning Warrior Youth Night into a food drive for the Muskego Food Pantry. Warrior Youth Night draws some of the largest crowds of the football season. More than 470 youth athletes including 340 tackle players from first through eighth grade and 89 flag football players take the field alongside the high school players before the game, packing the stands with families.Matthew Kurudza, who is involved with Muskego Youth Football, said the night is unlike anything else. "We have 340 youth tackle players in the first through 8th grade program and we have 89 youth flag program. So we are looking at over 470 different athletes coming out," Kurudza said.Watch: Longtime Muskego superfan helps create a night of giving with football program Longtime Muskego superfan helps create a night of giving with football program"It is a huge, huge night. There is nothing else like it," Kurudza said. The large turnout gave the football team the idea to use the event as an opportunity to collect food donations for the pantry, with barrels set up to collect contributions from the thousands of people in attendance. Rob Domenosky, a specialists coach for Muskego High School football, said the drive brings the whole community together."We can get all the people involved and fill these barrels full of food. It helps Muskego and the surrounding areas," Domenosky said.Among those benefiting from the effort is Jeff Sinner, a volunteer at the Muskego Food Pantry and a devoted fan of Muskego High School athletics. Sinner and his wife attend football games, boys and girls basketball games, and as many other Muskego High School sporting events as they can.Sinner said the need at the food pantry has never been greater."We see a lot of elderly people, a lot of families, young people, young moms. I saw a client yesterday with a baby this big and it looked like the baby was days old," Sinner said. For Sinner, the football team's decision to use Warrior Youth Night to support the pantry is deeply meaningful."To me it is an honor and a pleasure to do this," Sinner said. Those who missed the food drive can still help.
