Construction projects on both sides of the Bay this weekend are expected to cause delays for motorists. Here’s what to know about the projects and how to plan ahead. Westbound Carquinez Bridge on Interstate 80 to shut down Caltrans will close the westbound Carquinez Bridge on Interstate 8 0 for 53 hours starting Friday night as crews work on a deck rehabilitation project. The closure will start at 10 p.m. and continue through the weekend. It is scheduled to end by 3 a.m. Monday. The eastbound direction of the bridge will remain open. The San Francisco Bay Ferry said it would provide additional ferry trips Saturday and Sunday on the Vallejo route during the westbound closure. The exact closure will be westbound I-80 between the east end of the bridge and start of the westbound off-ramp to Pomona Street, from Sonoma Boulevard, Sequoia Avenue, Magazine Street and Lincoln Road. Below is a map of the closure: Detours during weekend Carquinez Bridge closure Motorists traveling westbound from Sacramento can take the following alternate routes: Detour for westbound I-80 traffic (before Exit 4): Take exit 40 to merge onto southbound Interstate 680 Continue on southbound I-680 Take exit 53 to merge onto westbound Highway 4 Continue on westbound Highway 4 Take exit 1B, merge onto westbound I-80 To completely avoid the Carquinez Bridge closure, motorists can use westbound I-680. The impacted portion of Highway 101 will be between Cesar Chavez and 17th streets so Caltrans can work on Hospital Curve rehabilitation, which is part of a longer-term project that started in 2025. Another closure is planned for Sept. 4-7. How to avoid Highway 101 traffic Caltrans is suggesting Interstate 280 or public transportation as an option as they shutter the lanes to work on the median near Hospital Curve.
