State Unemployment Stays the Same in July at 2.9%

Courtesy of Nebraska Department of Labor.LINCOLN–(KFOR Aug. 21)–Unemployment rate in Nebraska remains the same for July, as it was in June, at 2.9% seasonally adjusted, according to the Nebraska Department of Labor.
The rate was also the same in July 2025.
State Labor Commissioner Katie Thurber
said in a release to KFOR News, “Mining and construction employment reached another all-time high in July, marking three consecutive months of record employment.” That number was 71,487.
The three major construction sectors added a combined 435 jobs over the month. Construction of buildings led to the increase with 192 jobs, followed by heavy and civil engineering with 144 and specialty trade contractors with 99. Omaha’s growth was driven primarily by specialty trade contractors, while building construction and heavy and civil engineering accounted for most of the gains in Lincoln and the rest of the state.
Lincoln’s unemployment rate for July was 2.6%, down from the 2.9% in June, according to the Labor Department. Omaha’s stayed the same in July at 3.1%, like it was in June.
