INDIANAPOLIS (WOWO) — Gov. Mike Braun has formally requested a major disaster declaration from FEMA for 54 Indiana counties affected by recent flooding and severe weather. Braun said he submitted the expedited request Thursday night as communities across the state continue to recover from historic flooding and several days of severe weather. If approved, the declaration would provide additional federal resources to help Indiana communities recover from storm damage. “I will do everything in my power to ensure Hoosiers have the resources needed to recover.” – gov. mike Braun President Donald Trump previously approved an emergency declaration for Indiana, providing federal assistance to support state and local response efforts. That assistance is capped at $5 million, according to the Indiana Capital Chronicle. Indiana’s State Disaster Relief Fund was also increased to $5 million this week. The fund provides emergency aid grants of up to $5,000 to people affected by the storms. Hoosiers who were displaced by storm damage can apply for assistance with food, clothing and other essential needs by calling 211 or visiting the Indiana Department of Homeland Security’s State Disaster Relief Fund website.
