Game of the Week: Brownsburg Vs. Lawrence North INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — WISH-TV is your home for high school football, and every week Greg Rakestraw from the ISC Broadcast Network joins “Daybreak” to break down the “Game of the Week.” He says he is “geeked out” for this season, w hich has six great teams in 6A and four of them play each other this Friday. The Indiana high school football season kicks off on Friday, and WISH-TV’s Game of the Week is a Class 6A matchup between the two-time defending state champion Brownsburg Bulldogs and the Lawrence North Wildcats at 7 p.m. on MyIndy-TV 23. Rakestraw says the opening night game is as a rematch of a regional contest from two years ago. The matchup features two of the state’s top wide receiver recruits, who are both committed to play at Indiana University next year. Rakestraw also says five of the top six Class 6A teams in Indiana return their starting quarterbacks this season, setting up a competitive opening week across the state. Rake’s Take on Brownsburg: “As you are watching Brownsburg highlights… There’s a good chance that Brandon Sharp is scoring a touchdown in these highlights because he has had 20 receiving touchdowns over the course of the last couple of seasons. “Another thing that Brownsburg brings back is Oscar Frye, their starting quarterback, who’s headed to play at Illinois State. Again, all he has done in his two years as a starting quarterback is… win a state championship. He kind of split the job as a sophomore. It was all his offense last year. “Brownsburg has some key pieces to replace, but at the same time, if you bring back a high-level quarterback, a high-level running back, a high-level wide receiver, you’re going to be okay.” Rake’s Take on Lawrence North: “The same formula exists for Lawrence North. Let’s talk about Monshun Sales – he is one of the top recruits in the country, really a top 10 level recruit. He’s going to go play at Indiana University as well. He’s not the only Mr. Football candidate they have at Lawrence North because Zay Moore, the running back, who has been a three-year starter at running back, has had over 1,000 yards every season, frankly. He should have a similar year this year. He’s heading to play at Purdue. “They return their starting quarterback in Darian Prather. You can see why we picked this game for our game of the week to kick off the season. This is one of the best high school games of the regular season calendar, and we’re playing it on the first night out.” Rakestraw also noted several other high-profile Class 6A matchups on the schedule. Warren Central plays Center Grove in their first conference game since the 2021 season, following a regional matchup last year. Carmel hosts Fishers in the newly revamped Carmel Stadium and Cathedral faces Ben Davis. “First of all, the opening week slate is ridiculous because I think there are six great teams in 6A and four of them play each other this week,” Rakestraw said. “I think this is shaping up to be a remarkable year, especially at the larger level for Indiana high school football.” Live coverage of the matchup between Brownsburg and Lawrence North begins at 7 p.m. Friday on MyIndy TV 23 and the ISC Sports Network. Then switch to WISH-TV for highlights on “The Zone.” ...read more read less
