We’re learning more about the iconic Forest Theater’s revitalization project. Organizers tell NBC 5 the project will have an outdoor space called “Constantin Corner,” which will have a “lawn honoring the people, stories and cultural legacy that continue to shape South Dallas and inspire fu ture generations.” There will be an invitation-only unveiling ceremony on Thursday, Aug. 20 at 7 p.m. RB singer/songwriter Erika Nicole will perform. There will also be a permanent art installation by public art artist Jessica Bell. Forest Theater is on Martin Luther King Jr Blvd. in Dallas, just east of I-45, south of Downtown. Forest Theater previously hosted B.B. King, Wilson Pickett, Ike Tina Turner, Gladys Knight, and Prince. Nonprofit Forest Forward has led the way on the restoration process. Since the start, organizers say it has been much more than just renovating the 1940’s landmark; it’s also about bringing an economic engine back to South Dallas. With the direction of Forest Forward and through public and private partnerships, the $75 million project has been in development for a year. In 2024, an $8 million grant was approved by the City of Dallas. This story uses functionality that may not work in our app. Click here to open the story in your web browser. ...read more read less
