Severe storms are set to bring heavy rain, flash flooding and gusty winds to the Philadelphia region on Thursday. A FIRST ALERT is in effect for the entire area on Thursday, Aug. 20, from 1 p.m. through 9 p.m. Ahead of the stormy conditions on Thursday, the weather will remain comfortabl e on Wednesday before humidity returns throughout the evening as clouds slowly arrive. On Thursday, the threat for flash flooding and severe weather returns to the region. The storms will arrive shortly after noon and become more intense by mid-afternoon. Two to three inches of rain will fall in a short time and flash flooding is likely. Some of the storms may also be severe, producing winds over 60 mph. This is causing the entire region to be until a flood watch from Noon on Thursday to 2 a.m. on Friday. There is also a 2% chance of tornados on Thursday because of these storms. Thursday’s storms should exit by around 9 p.m. Temperatures throughout the day will be in the lower 80s. Friday will be dry and mostly sunny with comfortable temperatures in the mid-80s. The storms will return on Saturday and Sunday though the weekend won’t be a washout with on and off showers and storms likely. The highs will be in the lower 80s on both days. Monday and Tuesday will be beautiful with highs in the low 80s, low humidity and sunshine.
