isplaced. The work marks the first day of recovery in Riverwood, though floodwaters have not fully receded. As residents address the damage, volunteers are distributing supplies and hauling ruined belongings to dumpsters. This is the first day I haven't had fish swimming in my driveway, homeowner Angie Walker said.Neighbors said that while they are familiar with seasonal high water, this flooding is the worst they have seen. Many homeowners are assessing the damage for the first time since the water arrived.I'm numb. We have a lot to do, a lot to figure out. I don't have time. I cried the first day. I'm out of tears, Walker said. She noted that most of the debris in her yard floated onto her property from elsewhere. This year, it was over waist deep in my house and we lost everything, she said.Roads remain closed in parts of the neighborhood, preventing some residents from reaching their homes.Volunteers from VFW Post 6246, Davis Dirtworks LLC, Hawn's Lawns, Hoosier Hardscape and Sherco Snow are clearing debris and hauling unsalvageable items to the dump. They are also collecting and distributing donated clothes, water, food, trash bags and cleaning supplies. We've dropped off as much food and stuff that Riverwood could take and then we took the rest of it to Chesterfield because they were really low on supplies as well. All of this has been donated probably in the past three days, volunteer Kala Morris-Schult of Hoosier Hardscape said.Walker said the community support has made the process easier. These are great people out here. We work together, we're taking care of each other, and we're doing the best we can. We've got a lot of great volunteers that's helped. We appreciate everything and are just grateful we're still here, Walker said.VFW Post 6246 in Noblesville will host a breakfast and dinner Aug. 20 for those affected by the floods.
