An arrest was made after a brush fire in Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve scorched 130 acres and prompted evacuations in Sorrento Valley Sunday afternoon. San Diego police said Monday 30-year-old Brandon Glasgo was arrested on an forest fire arson charge in connection with the Sorrento Fire. SDPD spokesperson Officer Colin Steinbroner did not disclose what evidence led investigators to suspect Glasgo. He was in custody Monday with a bail set at $75,000, according to jail records. The Sorrento Fire sparked around 3:15 p.m. between Sorrento Valley Boulevard and Carmel Mountain Road and grew to about 130 acres within a few hours, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department. It was halted just before 7 p.m. It prompted an evacuation order for zone SDC-1444, which was still in effect Monday morning. Affected residents could take shelter at the temporary evacuation point, 4161 Eastgate Mall. Evacuation warnings were issued for zones SDC-1399, SDC-1400, SDC-1401, SDC-1442, SDC-1443, SDC-1446, SDC-1492 and SDC-1494, but all have since been lifted. The San Diego Police closed the following roads: 10800 Vista Sorrento Pkwy Sorrento Valley Boulevard Jasmine Crest Lane Traffic was expected to resume gradually as fire personnel leave, SDPD said in a post to X. Dozens of firefighting units, including about 160 personnel and Cal Fire’s fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters were battling the blaze from the ground and above. Cal Fire’s newest firefighting weapon, the C-130 could also be seen making water drops during the peak of the fire. All air-fighting teams were released Sunday evening. Ground crews remained on scene overnight to increase containment lines. By 8:30 p.m. Sunday, the fire was 25% contained.
