Caught on Cam: Man sought after mother, son robbed at gunpoint in Society Hill
Aug 17, 2026
Police have released surveillance footage in the hopes of tracking down a man who, officials claim, robbed a woman and her son at gunpoint in Philly’s Society Hill section last week.
Law enforcement officials shared video showing the individual on social media on Monday.
According to po
lice, the man seen in the footage is sought for his suspected involvement in a robbery at gunpoint that happened along the 300 block of Delancey Street at about 10:05 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2026.
At that time, officials said, a 50-year-old woman and her 16-year-old son were gathering items from their vehicle after parking along the block.
The man seen in the surveillance video, officials said, approached the mother and son and produced a handgun, and aimed it at the woman while demanding her wallet and cell phone.
Police said the mother handed over her wallet, but couldn’t find her phone.
At that point, the armed gunman patted down the woman’s pockets, but was unable to find a phone and, police said, he then demanded the teen’s wallet.
However, the boy did not have one, police said.
Following the robbery, the man — described by police as being in his late 40s to early 50s, standing about five-foot, eight-inches tall and having a heavy build — fled north on Third Street.
Before the robbery occurred, officials said, the man was spotted walking throughout the community for about 45 minutes.
Anyone who may be able to help identify this individual is asked to contact the Philadelphia Police Department’s Central Detective Division at 215-686-3093/3094 or submit a tip to the department’s tip line at 215-686-TIPS (8477).
