Marcus’ 6 a.m. Monday forecast
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Central Indiana’s active weather pattern continues Monday with morning showers exiting the region before fog develops tonight and another rain chance returns midweek.
Today
A cold front will push through the state this morning,
sparking scattered showers and thunderstorms primarily across the southern portions of central Indiana. Communities along and south of Interstate 74 have the best chance for rain during the morning commute, while areas north of Indianapolis should stay mainly dry.
The front will clear the region by midday, allowing skies to gradually clear from west to east. Winds will be gusty out of the southwest between 15 and 20 mph as the system exits.
High temperatures will reach the mid-80s across much of central Indiana.
Dense fog threat tonight
Clearing skies overnight combined with saturated ground from recent heavy rainfall will set the stage for widespread fog development. Dense fog is likely across much of the region, particularly in low-lying areas and near waterways.
Visibility could drop significantly by Tuesday morning’s commute. Motorists should be prepared for reduced visibility and allow extra travel time.
Overnight lows will fall into the upper 60s to lower 70s.
Tuesday
Fog will gradually lift through mid-morning, giving way to mostly sunny skies.
High temperatures will climb into the upper 80s.
Midweek rain threat
A new frontal system will approach late Tuesday night, setting the stage for rain and thunderstorms on Wednesday.
Scattered showers and storms are expected to develop during the afternoon hours Wednesday, becoming more widespread Wednesday evening and night. With the ground already saturated from recent rainfall, flash flooding will be a primary concern. Damaging winds will also be possible with any storms that reach severe criteria.
High temperatures Wednesday will reach the mid-80s before the front passes.
Cooler end to the week
Relief arrives late this week. Behind Wednesday’s cold front, a shift in the atmospheric pattern will bring below-normal temperatures and drier conditions.
Thursday will feature scattered showers in the morning before skies clear. Highs will be near 80 degrees.
7-day forecast
The overall pattern does quiet down, with only spotty rain and storm chances for Saturday. Temperatures look to remain below average through at least early next week – and the 8-14 day outlook does look to be a bit drier.
