Fort Worth police said one man was killed and another was hospitalized after the two exchanged gunfire Saturday afternoon.
Authorities responded to the 6900 block of Misty Glen Court after receiving reports of a shooting.
Police learned that the resident returned to his home on Misty Glenn Cou
rt and found another man who was not supposed to be there.
“A verbal altercation occurred between the two males and they both exchanged gunfire,” Officer Buddy Calzada with the Fort Worth Police Department said.
The resident survived and was recovering from gunshot wounds at a hospital. The other man died at the scene.
Preliminary investigations led officers to believe the man who died had an active protective order against him involving someone who lives at the home.
“Two things – one – this is not the way to end a verbal altercation. And there are also rules and laws and policies in place with that protective order. That individual should not have been here,” Calzada said.
The afternoon gunfire shocked neighbors along Misty Glenn Court, some of whom saw the aftermath outside the home.
“It’s just crazy to see something like that happen in this neighborhood – yeah,” a female witness said.
“There was a guy in the garage and a guy laying outside,” a male witness said.
Loved ones of those involved stood outside the police tape looking on in disbelief as neighbors worried about how close the gunfire came to their children.
“We have the kids inside, and that’s even worse, a 7, a 6-year-old, and a 5-year-old, and you imagine the bullets flying this way and you don’t know what can happen,” the male witness said.
“To have something like that happen here – it’s tragic,” Calzada said.
Homicide detectives are investigating the shooting. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or may have video is asked to contact the Fort Worth Police Department.
