TONIGHT The evening starts much quieter than the morning, with only an isolated shower or thunderstorm possible early. Most locations should get several dry hours through the evening as temperatures slowly fall through the 70s. Later tonight, however, the atmosphere begins reloading a s warmer and increasingly unstable air returns from the south. Showers and thunderstorms become more likely again after midnight, especially toward daybreak Sunday. Lows settle into the middle 70s. With the ground already saturated from several days of heavy rain, any overnight downpour could quickly create additional flooding problems. A Flood Watch remains in effect through Sunday morning. TOMORROW Sunday looks like the most impactful period of this run. Another round of showers and thunderstorms should move through during the morning, followed by the potential for additional storms during the afternoon as the atmosphere becomes extremely unstable. Highs reach the upper 80s, with oppressive humidity making it feel even hotter between storms. The main severe-weather concern is damaging wind, especially if storms organize into line segments during the afternoon. A few more isolated rotating storms are also possible, but flooding remains the biggest concern because additional rain will fall on areas that have already received tremendous amounts this week. If you’re heading to the Indiana State Fair Sunday, keep a very flexible plan. The fair is open and has a full slate of activities, including the 4-H Supreme Drive and Trace Adkins performing during the evening, but thunderstorms could interrupt outdoor portions of the day. Indoor attractions may be useful during any passing storm. TOMORROW NIGHT Showers and thunderstorms remain possible during the evening before gradually decreasing as the system pulls east. Lows fall into the lower 70s. The encouraging trend is that most rain should begin winding down as the night progresses, opening the door to a much quieter start to the workweek. MONDAY A very welcome change arrives. Expect mostly sunny skies, noticeably lower humidity and highs in the lower 80s. North to northwest winds help usher in cooler and drier air. After the stormy stretch we’ve experienced, Monday should finally provide central Indiana with a full day to dry out. MONDAY NIGHT Partly cloudy and much more comfortable with lows dropping into the lower 60s. Humidity stays low and winds become nearly calm. This should be one of the coolest and most pleasant nights we’ve had recently. TUESDAY Sunshine continues with highs in the lower 80s and comfortable humidity. Winds remain light, and there are no meaningful daytime rain concerns. Tuesday looks like another excellent day for outdoor plans and continued recovery from the flooding. TUESDAY NIGHT Partly cloudy and quiet with lows in the middle to upper 60s. Most of the night remains dry, although clouds may begin increasing late ahead of the next disturbance approaching for Wednesday. 7 DAY FORECAST The immediate focus remains on Sunday, when another round of thunderstorms could bring damaging winds and additional heavy rainfall to already saturated portions of central Indiana. Flooding remains the most significant concern because even relatively modest additional rainfall may cause problems in areas where rivers, creeks and soils are already overwhelmed. Conditions improve dramatically Sunday night, followed by a refreshing stretch Monday and Tuesday with sunshine, lower humidity and highs in the lower 80s. Storm chances return Wednesday, when another disturbance could bring additional heavy rainfall.
