Project Vet, a nonprofit working with people experiencing or at risk of homelessness since 2020, has now helped more than 10,000 in need, and on Friday, they were at Spring Valley connecting residents with needed resources Project Street Vet teamed up with San Diego County Housing and Community D evelopment Services for the event at the Spring Valley Community Center, providing veterinary services for pets while helping owners overcome the cost barrier to care. People brought their pets to the Project Street Vet tent for treatment of skin, ear and eye issues, as well as flea and tick control. Project Street Vet Executive Director Danae Davis said keeping pets healthy and with their owners can be particularly important for people facing a housing crisis. “When we keep the pets healthy and keep them together with the person, it’s preserving that bond that is really important to people’s mental well-being and their survival, especially when we’re talking about people potentially navigating a housing crisis, that bond is even more important for their survival. “ Davis said removing the cost barrier to veterinary care can also help keep pets with their owners and out of already crowded animal shelters.
