Videos found at a “mystery house” in Philadelphia’s Olney neighborhood show two missing women who are believed to be dead, investigators revealed Wednesday. Evers broke down what started this extensive investigation and what detectives have found so far. Timeline of Chew Avenue ‘Mystery House’ investigation This all began on June 19, 2026, when a park ranger stopped a BMW on the 600 block of Market Street near Independence Mall that had a male driver and female passenger inside, Evers said. The driver was identified as 44-year-old Eugene Horsch, officials said. The woman with him provided fake identification with the name Blair Tonzelli. Tonzelli disappeared in 2023, according to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUS). Inside the car, the park ranger reported finding two handguns and $8,000 in illegal drugs. During the investigation, detectives said they learned that Tonzelli will “never be seen again,” according to Evers. A search warrant was issued later that same day at a house on the 400 block of West Chew Avenue where the DEA and the Philadelphia Police Department said they found at least one more illegal gun, a marijuana grow operation, another fake FBI badge and five urns filled with cremated remains. Then, on June 25, another search warrant was conducted by Philly’s Homicide Division, ATF agents and a bomb disposal unit where they reported finding computer parts and what appeared to be a home lab with various containers of an unknown oily substance. Two days later, on June 27, Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel requested assistance from the FBI Evidence Recovery Team to process the lab, containers and digital evidence, Evers explained. On July 9, a K9 team searched the house and around it, Evers said. Another search warrant was then served on July 22 to remove a sewer line, lateral and trap at the house to see inside, Evers said. The containers filled with the oily substance was delivered to a lab in Chicago on July 27 for review. Then, in the beginning of August, a computer forensic lab began reviewing the digital evidence from the house, Evers said. They looked at 600,000 images, 70,000 videos and over 10,000 pages of drawings and writings, which is just 5% of the digital evidence, Evers said. All in all, over 95 search warrants were issued for the house and its contents. Videos depict at least two women dead Within the digital evidence, detectives reported finding videos depicting two women inside the house, Evers explained. Some videos show them alive and then other videos show them appearing to be dead. “I’m not gonna get into exactly what I saw, it’s dark. It’s real dark. But what we saw is these two girls alive. There was a period of time and what appears to us that they’re deceased. There’s pieces of the video that we don’t have yet,” Evers said during Wednesday’s press conference. The women are identified as Maribel Fresses and Gabriella Amarando who were both born in 1990, Evers said. Fressess was reported missing in February 2018 and Anarando has been missing since September of 2012. Detectives have not been able to find their bodies, Evers explained. The medical examiner confirmed that based off of the photo and video evidence, the two women are dead but could not verify how they died. Evers stressed that the videos are “dark and graphic.” Some other people who are seen in other pieces of the digital evidence are alive, but others are still missing, according to Evers. Investigation at Chew Avenue house continues Inspector Evers said that there will be an increased police presence at the house on the 400 block of West Chew Avenue as the investigation continues. Detectives are returning to the home and Evers explained they want to reexamine parts of it that may have been previously overlooked. “This investigation will take time. There’s a lot of evidence to go through,” Evers said. Eugene Horsch indicted On July 9, the NBC10 Investigators learned that a federal grand jury indicted Horsch on charges connected to false FBI credentials. At a preliminary hearing on Aug. 6, 2026, Pennsylvania state prosecutors withdrew all five charges against Eugene Horsch, 44, who is at the center of a large police search in June. Horsch still faces federal charges for possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of an unlawfully produced document and authentication feature. Horsch was transferred to federal custody after federal prosecutors charged him. A jury trial in the federal case was scheduled for Sept. 8.
