A man was arrested after threatening a police officer and driving recklessly through a construction zone nearly hitting the workers on Wednesday, according to the Gloucester Township Police Department. Police said they were assigned to control a work zone on Aug. 12 along Evesham Road when a man , identified as Matthew Senkier, 40, started to yell at one of the officers and demanded he leave. Then, Senkier got into a car and drove into the closed part of the road before driving recklessly, police said. Senkier is accused of driving toward the construction workers before being forced to stop where the road became impassable, police explained. This is when Senkier reversed his car and almost crashed into the police officer, officials said. The officer ran toward Senkier’s car and told him to get out of the vehicle, police reported. Senkier, yelling at the officer, refused to follow the orders and then drove through the construction zone again before going into a nearby business’ parking lot and then onto a residential street, according to police. Detectives said they figured out that Senkier was the driver and were able to locate him to arrest him. Senkier is charged with eluding, obstruction, resisting arrest and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
