COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO) — Ten candidates vied to fill the seat of the late Senator Lindsey Graham in Tuesday’s special GOP primary. The election will end in a runoff between the late Senator’s sister, Senator Darline Graham, and Congressman Ralph Norman. Exactly one month after her brother pass ed away, Senator Darline Graham brought in over 109,000 votes, or nearly 33 percent of the total ballots cast (according to unofficial results from the SC Election Commission). In second place, heading to the runoff with Graham, will be Congressman Ralph Norman securing over 82,000 votes or just under 25 percent of the total ballots. Representative Russell Fry came in third place – securing over 65,000 votes or around 20 percent of the ballots. My brother passed one month ago today, so none of this has been comfortable for me. But like I said, I’m a fighter. I have buried my precious brother. I have taken on the role of a United States Senator, and I have had this brutal campaign schedule and I’m still standing. If that doesn’t tell you I’m a strong person and a fighter, nothing will. So I think I can handle the next two weeks,” says Graham. “I love campaigning. We’re gonna hit every part of the state and take our message. And you know, this is all about faith, family, and freedom,” says Norman to a crowd of supporters. “While tonight we ran out of runway, we are incredibly proud of everything this campaign accomplished. And every single South Carolinian who believed in our mission — fighting for families,” says Fry in a statement. The winner of the runoff on Tuesday, August 25th will face off against Andrews in the general election on Tuesday, November 3rd. “I think they’re purposefully selling doubt so they can question the results when they lose on November 3rd. There is no widespread voter fraud in this country and this is a distraction because Donald Trump ran on a platform of lowering grocery prices and not starting new wars. And what we have seen under this Trump administration is the exact opposite of that. All we heard from them was pledging allegiance to Donald Trump and slogans not solutions, and that’s the opposite of what I’m offering,” says Andrews.
