A Peninsula family is expressing growing frustration with law enforcement after their stolen vehicle was spotted in Oakland just hours after it was taken, but a dayslong delay in police response may have cost them the opportunity to recover it. Ring camera video captured early last Wednesday morn ing shows a white vehicle pushing the family’s Cadillac two-door racing coupe away from their Menlo Park home. According to the vehicle’s owner, four masked thieves cut the car’s alarm wires, broke a window, and had one person jump inside while the others pushed the vehicle out of the neighborhood. “It’s terrifying four men would take a car like that,” said Loura, the car’s owner. Following the theft, Loura’s daughter, Kelly, posted photos of the stolen Cadillac on social media. She quickly received a response from a man who reported seeing the car parked on an Oakland street. The tipster sent the family a photo of the vehicle and notified the Oakland Police Department, but the family said officers did not respond. Hours later, the same tipster took additional photos showing individuals returning to the car and pushing it away. Loura expressed frustration over the lack of immediate action by Oakland authorities. “If Oakland Police Department had responded to the person’s phone call that night, it could have gotten the car back for us,” Loura said. Menlo Park police said that when the family notified them a few days later, officers reached out to the Oakland Police Department asking them to investigate the location. Menlo Park officials said Oakland officers responded to the scene at that time, but found nothing. “I’m really disappointed,” Kelly said. “We pay our tax money for police to protect us, and I know that there may be more important things to investigate, but to us this is important.” The Oakland Police Department did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Both police and the family are continuing their search for the suspects and the stolen vehicle. ...read more read less
