The concert is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. at the Jazz Blues Market New Orleans. Performers announced for the event include Owen, Donald Harrison, Bill Summers, Kermit Ruffins, Herlin Riley, Shannon Powell, Jamison Ross, Tonya Boyd Cannon, DJ Soul Sister and David Torkonowski. Additional performers are expected to be announced. Girls Play Trumpets TOO and New Voices New Orleans are also scheduled to participate. Proceeds will support the final phase of the organization’s Rebirth Initiative, which includes capital improvements and expanded music, education and workforce programs. The nonprofit said planned investments include completing a recording and streaming facility that would allow performances to reach audiences outside New Orleans. The organization also plans to provide local musicians with recordings of their performances at the venue at no charge. Funds will also support youth music instruction, classes, workshops and mentorship programs; community concerts and cultural events; and vocational training and professional development for people pursuing careers in the music industry. The organization also plans to revive its in-house New Orleans Jazz Orchestra as part of the initiative. “Music has the power to connect hearts, lift spirits, and transform communities,” Jazz Blues Market board Chairman Terrah Green said. “Groove for Good” allows us to keep that magic alive — by not only presenting world-class artists but by also supporting both local emerging artists and the next generation of musicians.” Managing Director Suzanne Bresette said Owen and Shearer’s involvement is intended to help draw attention to the venue’s renewed emphasis on jazz and blues and support future artist collaborations and community programs. The benefit is being supported by Partners Wine Marketing Group, Le Moyne Bistro and Tribaut Schloesser Champagne. A VIP event is scheduled from 6 to 7 p.m. and will include food, wine and champagne, along with music from DJ Soul Sister. VIP tickets will also include premium table seating and access to an after-show artist event.
