Man taken into custody after shootout, standoff with police in Daleville

DALEVILLE, Ind. (WRTV) -- A man was in custody Monday morning following an exchange of gunfire with law enforcement and a nearly 11-hour standoff at a Delaware County residence.The release did not give the man's name or say that
he was arrested. No one was injured in the shootout.The incident began at 6 p.m. Sunday in the 8400 block of South Lynn Street in Daleville. Officers from the Daleville Police Department, deputies from the Delaware County Sheriffs Department, and an Indiana Department of Natural Resources officer arrived at the scene after neighbors reported shots fired from a home.When they arrived, the officers encountered an armed man. This led to a shootout between the man and the officers.Following the shooting, the man barricaded himself inside the house. SWAT teams from the Delaware County Sheriffs Department and the Indiana State Police arrived to help resolve the situation.Members of the Delaware County Sheriffs Department Crisis Negotiation Team talked with the man on the phone for several hours. Despite repeated requests for him to surrender, the man refused to come out.The standoff ended shortly after 4:30 a.m. Monday at the South Lynn Street residence when the Delaware County SWAT team entered the home and arrested the man without further trouble.Emergency responders took the man to Ball Memorial Hospital for a medical checkup. Police expect to move him to the Delaware County jail once doctors release him.The Indiana State Police is investigating the shooting. Once finished, detectives will submit their findings to the Delaware County Prosecutor's Office.Daleville is a town of 1,700 residents that's about a 1-hour drive northeast of downtown Indianapolis.
