The Timber Fire in Monterey County doubled its size to 800 acres from 400 acres early Monday morning, according to Cal Fire. In an update just before 6 a.m., Cal Fire said containment stayed at 5%. The fire sparked at about 10:45 a.m. Sunday southeast of the unincorporated area of Loma Vista, mak ing access difficult for firefighters. A photo from the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office showed a large plume of smoke and flames rising behind a dark ridgeline, illuminating the surrounding hills with an orange glow. Immediate evacuation orders have been issued for residents in the Big Sur area, namely zones MRY-F026 and MRY-F027, which are near Partington Ridge and North Coast Ridge roads. These orders also include the Alila Ventana Big Sur resort. Evacuation warnings are also now in effect for zones RY-F024, MRY-F025 and MRY-F028.
