Two cats died in an early Monday morning fire caused by discarded cigarettes in San Francisco’s Lower Nob Hill neighborhood, fire officials said. The fire was reported at 12:16 a.m. in the 900 block of Geary Street at a five-story, multi-residential complex. Crews had the fire contained and und er control by 12:58 a.m., according to the San Francisco Fire Department. Fire officials said there were no persons reported injured and, as of 1:10 a.m., no residents were displaced. The fire was caused by discarded cigarettes in a single apartment unit, the department said. Firefighters remained at the scene to clear the area.
