Aug 10, 2026
A man was killed, police said, after he was ambushed by two men who chased him down and shot him to death in the parking lot of an apartment complex in Kensington on Sunday night.
According to Philadelphia Police Inspector D.F. Pace, the deadly shooting happened at about 9:30 p.m., in the parking
lot behind an apartment complex located along the 2000 block of East Lehigh Avenue.
First responders to the scene, he said, found a 26-year-old man after he had been shot throughout his body. Pace said the man was pronounced shortly after he was taken to a nearby hospital.
At the scene, Pace said, investigators recovered between 20 to 25 spent shell casings.
However, he said, investigators are also reviewing surveillance video from the scene that appears to show two gunmen arrive at that location in a possibly gray or dark-colored SUV and rush toward to victim while beginning to open fire.
The victim, as seen in the footage that police have obtained, Pace said, turned to run and get away from the gunmen, only to collapse as the attackers continued to fire in the victim’s direction.
After the shooting stopped, he said, both gunmen returned to the SUV and fled the scene.
Police are still working to determine if a driver was waiting in the vehicle or if one of the shooters got behind the wheel, he said.
Also, Pace said, no arrests were immediately made and police were still working to determine a motive as an investigation into the deadly shooting continued on Monday morning.
According to police statistics, as of Sunday, August 9, 2026, there were 108 reported homicides in Philadelphia so far this year. This is down by about 21% from the same time in 2025, police statistics show.
