BATON ROUGE mdash;nbsp;Judge Eboni Johnson Rose, a 19th JDC judge previously suspended for a year following a series of controversies, was one of many candidates who automatically won reelection at the end of the qualifying period for the Nov. 3 election after running unopposed.Rose was suspended i n August 2024 for nearly a year after a series of controversial cases she presided over, including one where she convicted Baton Rouge Police officer Donald Steele of a crime that did not exist, the WBRZ Investigative Unit reported.nbsp;nbsp;She also took more than the legal amount of time off an arsonistrsquo;s sentence, something she later called a ldquo;regrettable oversight.rdquo;In addition to Rose, 11 other judges in the 19th JDC won the election unopposed, including Judges Tarvald Smith, William Jorden, Colette Greggs, Vicky Jones, Beau Higginbotham, James Manasseh, Louise Myers, Kory Tauzin, Fred Crifasi, Carson Marcantel and Richard Moore III.nbsp;Other candidates who won unopposed included District Attorney Tony Clayton for the 18th District and District Attorney Ricky Babin for the 23rd District.For other candidates who qualified for the Nov. 3 election, click here.Permalink| Comments ...read more read less
