A call to remove a snake from beneath an Aledo home turned into a much bigger job when wildlife experts discovered an entire den of rattlesnakes hiding in the crawl space. Dallas Fort Worth Wildlife Control collected nearly two dozen rattlesnakes from beneath the home, according to owner Randall Kennedy. “Just a usual call about something under someone’s house,” snake wrangler Sheila Taber said. But even with a decade of experience, Taber wasn’t prepared for what she found — rattlesnakes everywhere she looked. “That was a whole den. They just kept coming out,” Taber said. Kennedy estimated the crew collected about two dozen snakes. He said rattlesnake sightings are especially common in Aledo. “In Aledo, three times a day. It’s that bad. Aledo is absolutely infested with rattlesnakes,” Kennedy said. Kennedy said people are often surprised to learn his crews find rattlesnakes throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area. On hot days, he said, the venomous reptiles often look for shelter from the heat. The space beneath this particular Aledo home offered just that, along with potential prey. “It was cold up under that house. They had a bit an AC link so it felt good up under the house, and of course its scorching out here. You know, if it feels good to us, it feels good to the snakes, too. They had rats under there. They had rabbits under there. You know, everything they needed was there,” Kennedy said. Kennedy said the snakes will be released far from the residential area where they were found.
