A San Francisco concert featuring Earth, Wind Fire and Lionel Richie was called off at the last minute Thursday, disappointing many fans who were in town to see it, due to one of the band members becoming ill.In an Instagram post that has since been deleted, the band Earth, Wind Fire announced Thu rsday that their scheduled Thursday night concert at the Chase Center, featuring Lionel Richie had been canceled."We are unable to perform as scheduled tonight at Chase Center in San Francisco due to a medical emergency involving a member of our band," the band said. As ABC 7 reports, the Chase Center announced the concert was called off at 7:20 pm, with the concert having a listed starting time of 7:30. ABC 7 also had video footage of thousands of fans gathered outside one of the Chase Center entrances waiting to get in to the show, after doors were supposed to open at 6:30 pm Thursday.The concert is reportedly being postponed to a later date, and refunds for tickets are available.Earth, Wind Fire perform at Little Caesars Arena on July 01, 2026 in Detroit, Michigan. (Photo by Scott Legato/Getty Images)All of the members of Earth, Wind Fire are in their 70s, and Richie is 77.Update: TMZ is reporting that it was not one of the longtime members of the band — Philip Bailey, Verdine White, or Ralph Johnson — but drummer John Paris, who suffered the medical emergency. Paris grew up partly in the Bay Area, and he's been performing with the band since 2001.As KTVU notes, the cancellation comes about a month after Richie had to postpone some dates on this same tour due to reported dizzy spells.The Sing a Song All Night Long Tour with Ritchie and Earth, Wind Fire had 26 cities on the schedule, including Palm Desert on Saturday, August 8, and Los Angeles on Sunday, August 9.
