Participants at Never Settle Day keep striving. (Photo courtesy of Mikal Settle) By Olivia Sigler Sometimes it’s easy to coast. But if you’re ready to push yourself to a new level, head to Never Settle Day this Saturday at Water Works Park. The second annual event is organized by local personal trainer and motivational coach Mikal Settle, who wants to promote positivity through fitness in Greater Des Moines. He established the day to spread an important message: You’re never alone, and your mental health matters. “I want people to never settle,” he said. “When they come to Never Settle Day, I want them to feel the energy that helps boost them forward.” Settle said he draws motivation from overcoming some mental health struggles of his own, and he wants to help people boost self-confidence and consistency. Accordingly, Never Settle Day involves several fitness challenges, including dance, Pilates and a 5K, all of which can boost mental, emotional and physical well-being. The event is set for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is designed for participants of all skill levels. The response to last year’s event motivated Settle to continue it another year. To him, a successful event leaves attendees feeling positive and inspired. “If it’s 20 people that show up, that’s a win because every individual person that shows up is important,” he said. “I just want those people to be inspired and make an impact.” This year’s event features 35 vendors.
