JACKSON COUNTY, Ind. Indiana State Police are investigating the death of an inmate at the Jackson County Jail who was found unresponsive in his cell last month.Richard E. Cox, 47, was arrested on July 22 and remained incarcerat ed until he was found unresponsive on July 25.According to police, jail staff immediately rendered first aid and contacted EMS after finding Cox.He was flown to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment, where he later died on July 29.Police said the investigation indicated Cox was alone in his cell when he became unresponsive. Police do not believe foul play was a factor.The investigation remains ongoing and the result of the autopsy are still pending.The Jackson County jail has faced legal scrutiny over in-custody deaths before. In 2021, Joshua McLemore, a man with a history of schizophrenia and drug abuse, died in solitary confinement.
