LANCASTER CO., S.C. – The National Transportation Safety Board has released its preliminary report into last month’s fiery plane crash in Lancaster County. According to the agency, the twin-engine Beechcraft Baron was on a nighttime training flight from Pearl River County, Mississippi to Stan ly County, North Carolina when the crew reported issues with both engines. Flight tracking details reveal the pilots initially tried to divert to Kirk Air Base, but quickly switched their destination to McWhirter Field. Investigators say the plane fell short of the runway, cutting through trees off Brooklyn Avenue before bursting into flames. The plane was almost entirely consumed by the post-impact fire. First responders found both pilots responsive outside the aircraft. They suffered severe burns and were airlifted to regional medical facilities for treatment. ...read more read less
