Neither Victor Zaborsky nor Joe Price has made required payments to Robert Wone’s memorial trust under the terms of a 2011 civil settlement for years, Wone’s estate says in documents filed earlier this summer in DC Superior Court. The documents, first reported by the blog Who Murdered Robert Won e?, say the pair have for years made payments inconsistently, late, or not at all. Wone was murdered on August 2, 2006, while he stayed at the house on Swann Street, Northwest, that Zaborsky and Price shared with the third member of their throuple, Dylan Ward. Wone and Price had been friends since they attended the College of William Mary in the 1990s. The three residents maintained that an intruder entered the house, stabbed Wone to death, and left. But as Harry Jaffe wrote for Washingtonian in 2010, that explanation failed to account for “who cleaned the room of blood, washed the body, discarded the murder weapon, disposed of the bloody towels or sheets, and changed the bedding—in 45 minutes.” Prosecutors eventually charged the three with obstructing justice, but they were unable to win a conviction. In 2011, Wone’s widow, Kathy Wone, settled a $20 million wrongful death lawsuit she brought against the trio, citing documents from prosecutors that alleged, as the Washington Post reported in 2011, that Wone was “probably drugged into a paralytic-like state and sexually assaulted.” The terms of the settlement were not disclosed at the time, but the documents filed this year say that Zaborsky agreed to pay $66,000 in 240 monthly installments and that Price agreed to pay $85,500 over the same 20-year period. Ward isn’t mentioned in the documents filed. The estate has asked the court to order Price and Zaborsky to pay the entire remaining amount owed. Neither man has responded to Washingtonian’s requests for comment. Craig Brownstein, one of the people behind the Wone blog, says that “it sounds like their lives are continuing to unravel.” But, he says, “All of that pales in comparison to what they may or may not know.” He learned of the purported defaults via a tip from the community the blog has fostered over the decades. His post quotes an unnamed attorney who reportedly knew Price and Zaborsky saying the payments were “an ongoing reminder of what they did. Every f’ing month.” The site will remain up, Brownstein says, as a memorial. He published the post about Price and Zaborsky’s purported defaults on Sunday, the 20th anniversary of Wone’s death. Since the 2010s, the Swann Street house where Wone was killed has changed hands several times, and Brownstein and his fellow blogger David Greer appeared in a 2023 documentary about the mystery of his death.
