INDIANAPOLIS (WRTV) The National Weather Service on Monday confirmed two tornadoes hit Indiana on Saturday, including a brief touchdown south of downtown Indianapolis that pushed the state's yearly total to a record-breaking 81
.The EF-0 tornado in Indianapolis started near the corner of Madison and Southern avenues at 5:20 p.m. With peak winds of 76 mph, the storm traveled about 0.2 miles and reached a maximum width of 100 yards.During its two-minute path, the tornado uprooted a large tree and scattered small limbs across the area. The storm damaged the siding of two homes and pushed a truck trailer into a parked truck. It snapped several trees near Christel House South Academy before vanishing at 5:22 p.m.Central Marion County was under a tornado warning for about 30 minutes starting at 5:23 p.m.Meteorologists also confirmed a tornado in Franklin County from Saturday, though they have not yet released its rating or track length.Officials reported no injuries or deaths from either storm.The state's 81 tornadoes in 2026 are the highest number ever recorded in a single year since reliable record-keeping began in 1950.Keith Gibson and Gregg Montgomery contributed to this report.
