Lexington health commissioner named to UK College of Public Health Hall of Fame
Aug 03, 2026
LEXINGTON, Ky. — Dr. Crystal Miller, Commissioner of Health for the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department, has been selected as the University of Kentucky College of Public Health’s 2026 Public Health Hall of Fame Distinguished Leader, the health department announced.
The honor recognizes M
iller’s exceptional leadership, commitment to public health, and lasting impact on the community. The University of Kentucky College of Public Health’s Hall of Fame, first established in 2005, honors alumni and leaders in three categories, with the Distinguished Leader award recognizing graduates of more than five years demonstrating sustained excellence.
Miller took over as Lexington-Fayette County’s health commissioner in July 2025 after serving nearly two decades as director of the WEDCO District Health Department, which covers Harrison, Nicholas, and Scott counties. She is a native of Lexington and earned all three of her degrees from the University of Kentucky: a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, a master’s degree in public health, and a doctorate in public health.
Prior to her work with WEDCO, Miller worked at the UK College of Public Health for more than seven years. Since assuming her current position, she has championed community health initiatives, including the “Let’s Lock It Lex” gun safety program launched earlier this year to provide free firearm locks and protect children and families.
“Her vision and dedication continue to inspire the work we do every day at LFCHD,” the health department said in announcing the award. Miller also serves as a member of the College of Public Health Board of Advisors and remains engaged with her alma mater.
