An Allentown man will face life in prison without parole after being convicted of a September 2023 murder, according to the Lehigh County District Attorney Gavin P. Holihan. Evander Thompson, 32, was convicted Thursday of all charges in connection with the murder of 62-year-old Orlando Ibanez, who was killed on Sept. 23, 2023. According to officials, Allentown Police responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting on the second floor of an apartment building in the 500 block of West Allen Street.  When officers arrived, they found the body of Ibanez, 62 at the apartment entrance, with shell casings nearby, officials said. Investigators said city surveillance footage showed Thompson entering the apartment shortly before the shooting and leaving the building several minutes later.  Police also recovered footage of Thompson using his cellphone minutes after the shooting. After investigators obtained and searched the phone with a warrant, they found a message Thompson sent his partner that read, “he dead.”  Authorities said they later found a gun in the possession of Thompson’s partner’s minor son. Investigators determined it was the murder weapon after matching it to the shell casings recovered at the scene. Thompson was convicted of first-degree murder and carrying a firearm without a license. A first-degree murder conviction in Pennsylvania carries a mandatory life sentence in prison without the possibility of parole.  ...read more read less
