ANDERSON, Ind. (WISH) — A teen bicyclist had to be flown to an Indianapolis hospital after he was hit by a car while riding his bike outside of Anderson early Friday morning.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Department says they first received word of two teenagers riding their bikes on Stat
e Road 9 just north of Anderson around 5:44 a.m.
As deputies were searching the area for the boys, they received another call just minutes later reporting that one of them had been hit by a vehicle.
The riders, two brothers aged 15 and 13, were riding their bikes near State Road 9 and County Road East 500 North when the incident took place.
The 15-year-old boy sustained serious injuries as a result; the sheriff’s department says the boy was taken to Community Hospital in Anderson before being airlifted to IU Methodist in Indianapolis.
The 13-year-old was not harmed.
Investigators say the driver of the vehicle was a 64-year-old man from Anderson. He stayed at the scene and is working with detectives.
The Indiana Department of Transportation says all lanes of SR 9 between Chitwood Drive and East 500 North are closed. It was not clear when the intersection would reopen.
