INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Central Indiana starts Friday with a dry, seasonal day and some sunshine. Clouds will increase through the afternoon as a storm system moves east from Missouri and Illinois. High temperatures will reach the mid-80s, with most areas remaining dry until late afternoon. Heavy Rain Threats Return This Weekend A stalled weather system over Indiana is expected to bring waves of heavy rain and localized flooding Saturday and Sunday. This system is isolated from the main steering winds, allowing it to draw in a large amount of tropical moisture. The potential for widespread 1-2″ of rainfall is possible through the weekend, with some locally higher amounts possible. The rain won’t be constant but will come in rotating showers and thunderstorms circling the low-pressure area. Because of this, there’s a low end threat for severe storms Saturday. High temperatures will cool off to the mid to upper 70s during this time. Early next week Monday and Tuesday will see mixed conditions across central Indiana. The southeastern region could continue to see showers as the system moves slowly toward Kentucky. Meanwhile, northeastern parts of the state will likely enjoy drier, cooler air as high pressure builds in from the Great Lakes. Midweek Warm-Up By midweek, drier and warmer weather is expected.
