The smoke from the wildfire that broke out along the coast of Sonoma County Thursday has affected the air quality in the North Bay, prompting a Spare the Air Alert. The wind-driven Woodside Fire burning near Salt Point State Park has scorched at least 75 acres in heavy timber and was 20% containe d, according to Cal Fire. Evacuation orders were issued for zone SON-1D1, Salt Point State Park, Steelwater Cove Regional Park, Ocean Cove Private Camp, and the Timber Cove Subdivision, according to Cal Fire. An evacuation warning was issued for zone SON-1D2. Highway 1 was shut down between Stewarts Point-Skaggs Springs Road and Timber Cove Road, officials said. The smoke of the fire has impacted the air quality in the North Bay, leading to a Spare the Air Alert being issued. Authorities said the alert will be in effect until Friday and added wood burning is banned. “High levels of particulate matter pollution are harmful to breathe, especially for children, seniors and those with respiratory and heart conditions,” officials said. “Avoid smoke exposure by staying indoors, if heat is not an issue. If temperatures are too high indoors, visit a Clean Air Center or other facility with filtered air.” The Sonoma County Health Officer issued the following health advisory: “Areas of Sonoma County may experience ‘very unhealthy’ or ‘hazardous’ air quality caused by the wildfire event along the coast near Timber Cove and Salt Point State Park.
