A child sex assault suspect who was also potentially involved in a hit-and-run that killed a Temple University student in June was captured by U.S. Marshals, officials announced on Thursday. Derek Reid, 48, was arrested on the 7200 block of Briar Road, according to investigators. Investigator s said they believe Reid was the driver in a hit-and-run that killed Temple University student Bryce Wolfe, 20, in June. Charges against Reid for the crash are pending. Reid was also charged on April 28, 2026, with rape, sexual assault and corruption of a minor after he allegedly sexually assaulted a child in 2021, officials said. He is also a suspect in a June 24 fatal hit and run on Kelly Dr. pic.twitter.com/6zArgJcTKL— U.S. Marshals Service Philadelphia (@USMS_Philly) July 30, 2026 The death of Bryce Wolfe On Wednesday, June 24, around 11:15 p.m., Bryce Wolfe, a 20-year-old actuarial science major at the Fox School of Business at Temple University, was riding his 2004 Triumph motorcycle at the intersection of Kelly and Reservoir drives. As he was riding, a white SUV traveling eastbound on Kelly Drive tried to make an illegal U-turn onto Reservoir Drive, investigators said. The driver was unable to complete the U-turn and returned to the eastbound lanes. The SUV then entered Wolfe’s path as he rode his motorcycle. Wolfe struck the white SUV and became lodged underneath the vehicle, police said. The white SUV then dragged Wolfe “for more than one mile — from Reservoir Drive to the area of Fountain Green Drive — before the victim became dislodged,” according to officials. Police said that Wolfe was wearing a helmet and was taken to the hospital, where he was listed in critical condition with a fractured right leg and extensive road burns on his head and face. He ultimately was pronounced dead at 4:41 a.m. the next morning. In a message to the Temple community, school leaders said that Wolfe was a rising junior from Conyngham, Pennsylvania, who maintained a high GPA and was enrolled in Fox Honors programs. “Bryce was also deeply involved outside of class as he was a member of the student professional organization Gamma Iota Sigma and had recently started an internship with United States Liability Insurance Group,” the school said. “There is no doubt that he had a very bright future ahead of him, and that’s what makes delivering this news especially difficult.” “A terrible event like this reminds us how fragile life can be. It will no doubt affect many of us and in a variety of ways. We extend our thoughts and deepest sympathies to those who were closest to Bryce, especially his family and friends,” the school added. Prior to Reid’s arrest, Wolfe’s parents spoke with NBC10’s Jacqueline London and said they were urging anyone with any information to come forward. “I can only imagine what he was going through the final minutes that he was under that car and being dragged and probably yelling stop stop,” said Clarence Wolfe, Bryce’s dad, back in June. “There’s someone out there who saw this accident.
