The Philadelphia Police Department’s bomb squad was involved in an investigation overnight after, officials said, an unknown device was thrown into a home in the Feltonville section of North Philly. According to police, the investigation began after someone threw an unknown device into the win dow of a rowhome along the 400 block of West Courtland Street at about 2 a.m. early Thursday. The object — which police described in a morning update as an “inert grenade” — was thrown into a window of a rowhome before, police said, an occupant inside the property tossed the device back out of the window and onto the sidewalk outside. Officials said the object was being investigated as a “suspected explosive device,” but they did not say exactly what the device may have been. Though, in a morning update, officials called the device an “inert grenade.” Police did not evacuate the block, however, and the object was removed from the scene at about 3:37 a.m. by the bomb squad. Following an examination of the device, officials said, the inert grenade was determined not to be a danger to the public. No injuries were reported in this incident.
