A suspect is in the hospital after an officer-involved shooting early Thursday following a police chase that began in The Colony and ended in Dallas, according to the Richardson Police Department. Police said the incident began just after 2 a.m. when the Plano Police Department notified Richardso n officers that they had lost sight of a suspect vehicle connected to an aggravated robbery. In a statement to NBC 5, Plano Police Department said they had originally responded to assist the The Colony Police Department with an incident involving a robbery that occurred within The Colony city limits. Plano officers provided assistance at a home in Plano at the request of The Colony Police Department. The suspect vehicle involved in this case later entered Richardson jurisdiction near Custer Road and West Renner Road. Richardson officers later found the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled, leading officers on a pursuit that continued into Dallas. According to Richardson police, the suspect fired at pursuing officers during the chase. Officers returned fire as the chase continued. The chase ended when the suspect vehicle became disabled near Alpha Road and Hughes Lane in Dallas, allowing officers to take the suspect into custody. No officers were injured during the incident, police said. The suspect was transported to the hospital by Dallas Fire-Rescue for treatment of a gunshot wound. The suspect’s condition is unknown at this time. Police have not released their identity. An NBC 5 crew at the scene observed a heavily damaged suspect vehicle riddled with bullet holes. At least two police vehicles also appeared to have been struck by heavy gunfire. Crews also observed what appeared to be a large firearm lying on the ground near the investigation scene. A significant police presence remains in the area as investigators process evidence at the scene. The Dallas Police Department is leading the investigation into the officer-involved shooting. Richardson police said neither the Plano Police Department nor the Dallas Police Department was involved in the shooting itself. Because the original robbery incident occurred in The Colony, that agency is leading that robbery investigation and will be responsible for releasing any additional information regarding that case. Authorities have not released additional details about the aggravated robbery investigation or the events leading up to the exchange of gunfire.
