The Park City Police Department has filed a document in Third District Court describing that the person who ultimately died from injuries sustained in a confrontation was conscious at the time the authorities arrived at the scene and pointed to the man accused in the death. The probable cause af fidavit filed against Austin Garceau outlines a preliminary case in the killing of Damon Enman, who was 34 and from Salt Lake County. Garceau, 38, and also from Salt Lake County, has been charged with murder. According to the affidavit, a 911 call was made from a Deer Valley Drive residence on Friday at 8:27 a.m. The caller was Enman, who told a dispatcher Garceau had stabbed him, the affidavit says. Police officers entered the place and found Enman had suffered what is described in the filing as a “deep stab wound to his chest.” Garceau had suffered from what appeared to be an arm laceration, the affidavit says. Enman “told an officer that he (pointing out Austin) said I’m going to kill you and grabbed a knife,” it says. Another person in the residence, identified in the filing as KL, spoke to authorities during the investigation. The affidavit says: “KL reported to investigators that Austin had a knife, said that Damon was a reptilian, and then stabbed Damon. Damon said, KL stop him like he’s going to kill me. I’m dying. KL said he ran and tried to get the knife out of Austin’s hand, but Austin was bigger than him and he was scared. KL jumped on Austin’s back and told him to drop it and gave him a bear hug. KL kept telling him to drop it repeatedly. Austin dropped the knife and said, What did I do?” A fourth person who was there, identified as WW, described an altercation to the authorities and, moments later, indicated, according to the affidavit: “He then saw Austin walking toward the kitchen and heard him pull a knife from a butcher block. He said the sound was very distinct. Once WW was back upstairs, he heard Austin say something to the effect of someone being a reptilian and then heard another person say they had been stabbed.” A court date had not been set by Monday morning. Garceau is being held without bail at the Summit County Jail. The incident was reported on the 500 block of Deer Valley Drive, where there is a row of residences just east of the Old Town roundabout. The municipal government afterward said the confrontation appeared to be an isolated event and there was not a continuing threat to the public. A medical helicopter took the victim to the University of Utah Hospital. The death is the first homicide inside Park City since 2017. An online fundraiser is underway to assist with the costs of a funeral, a celebration of Enman’s life and to support the victim’s family. “Damon lived with a spirit of love and generosity that touched so many lives. As we honor his memory, we hope to reflect the love and generosity he gave to all of us,” the fundraising page says. It also says: “Damon was a true light in this world — a bright ray of sunshine whose love, laughter, and kindness touched so many lives. We are grateful for the opportunity to celebrate the incredible person he was.” The post Park City police affidavit indicates victim in killing was conscious, pointed to suspect at the scene appeared first on Park Record. ...read more read less
