A Pennsylvania man is facing charges after police said he admitted to shooting and killing a neighbor’s rooster because he was tired of it waking him up in the morning. According to Pocono Township police, officers responded to a home on Beaver Trail in Scotrun around 2:00 p.m. on July 21, 2026 , after the rooster’s owner reported the animal had been shot while on the owner’s property. Police said the owner of the rooster stated that a man, later identified as Raymond Zelyez, a 63-year-old male from Scotrun, drove past his residence, got out of his truck, and shot his rooster. Officers interviewed Raymond, and he admitted to driving past the residence, shooting the rooster, and leaving in his truck, which was observed on camera, police said. Police said Raymond stated that he shot the rooster because he was tired of it waking him up in the morning.
