A 17-year-old boy was rescued by San Diego firefighters and lifeguards Saturday after a video showed him jumping from a cliff near Sunset Cliffs Boulevard, striking the side of the cliff before hitting the water. The call came in at 4:27 p.m. Lifeguards pulled the boy from the water and transpor ted him to a local hospital at 5:16 p.m., according to San Diego Fire-Rescue Public Information Officer Candace Hadley. A video posted on social media and shared with NBC 7 shows the boy striking the cliff and then water before at least 6 people jumped in to help him. The extent of his injuries is unknown. Hadley shared the following message: “As a reminder, cliff jumping is not only extremely dangerous but also against the law in San Diego. San Diego Municipal Code section 63.20.23 prohibits jumping or diving into the Pacific Ocean or Mission Bay from any natural or human-made point connected to land that is more than five feet above the water.” Adding, “we want locals and visitors to enjoy San Diego’s coastline safely.
