Coach Kyle Shanahan will have a limited schedule as the 49ers open training camp after he was involved in a recent car accident, the organization announced Saturday morning. “San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was involved in a car accident last week where he suffered non-life-thr eatening injuries,” the statement read. “Coach Shanahan will participate in team activities on a limited basis at the start of training camp while he recovers.” The veterans are scheduled to report to 49ers training camp in Santa Clara on Saturday. The first practice is set for Sunday. NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco confirmed the extent of Shanahan’s injuries. Shanahan’s car crash occurred on July 14, ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Nick Wagoner reported Saturday, citing sources familiar with the situation. The longtime coach collided with an SUV near his Northern California home, per Schefter and Wagoner. Shanahan spent most of July 14 in a local area hospital before being released, per Schefter and Wagoner. “Coach Shanahan and the 49ers organization would like to sincerely thank all first responders involved for their efforts and care,” the statement read. Chris Foerster, the assistant head coach, will team up with offensive coordinator Klay Kubiak, defensive coordinator Raheem Morris and special teams coordinator Brant Boyer to handle the head coaching responsibilities during Shanahan’s absence, according to the team. Shanahan, 46, enters his 10th season with the 49ers, which will tie Bill Walsh for the longest-tenured head coach in franchise history. Shanahan’s teams have posted a regular-season record of 82-67 (.550 win percentage). The 49ers have advanced to the playoffs five times in Shanahan’s tenure with a postseason record of 9-5.
