An 18-year-old woman was killed and five other teens have been hospitalized after, police said, a vehicle crashed as it exited I-95 onto Columbus Boulevard in South Philly early Friday. According to Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small, the incident happened at about 1 a.m., when a Nis san Maxima headed southbound on I-95 moved to exit at the off-ramp for Washington Avenue and Columbus Boulevard. At that time, Small said, the driver struck a curb, causing the vehicle to go airborne before landing on its passenger side along the 700 block of South Christopher Columbus Boulevard. Six people were in the vehicle, all of them teenagers, police said in a morning update. As a result of the crash, Small said, an 18-year-old woman, who was believed to have been sitting in the backseat of the vehicle, was killed while another 18-year-old woman was hospitalized in critical condition. The woman who died, Small said, was taken to a nearby hospital after the crash and was pronounced at about 1:46 a.m. Small said the driver of the vehicle, a 17-year-old boy, was taken to the hospital in stable condition. Another 17-year-old girl, who was also in the backseat, police said, was hospitalized in critical condition while two 17-year-old boys were taken to the hospital, as well. These boys were listed in stable condition, police said. Small said that investigators were working to determine if drugs and/or alcohol were a factor in this crash.
